When talking about Punk Rock , many assume they are fast songs with only three musical chords and the truth is that in many cases it is. This has led some to disparage the genre, citing the simplicity of the compositions when in reality this is not true.

In 1974 , the group comes Ramones in New York City, who are considered the pioneers of Punk Rock. And if many say was a gang of three chords , surely they were, but would have to see what chords! The same could be said of Sex Pistols with Johnny Rotten to the head.

Twenty years later, the band Green Day was the first music to fashion punk on the West Coast of the United States. His album “Dookie” sold no less than 14 million copies worldwide, despite having been overlooked group in its infancy. And while Green Day also has issues three chords and three minutes , that does not diminish at all the victories and awards achieved.

And the talent of the group’s founder, Billie Joe Armstrong (vocals, guitar), has revolutionized the genre , leading to even make songs from over 9 minutes which in turn are divided into five acts, but perfectly linked. We see this in the songs “Jesus of Suburbia” and “Homecoming.”

The truth is that MCR (their abbreviations) is described simply as a rock band or as it says on its website: “Pop dangerous and violent” . Some say they have some of the Sex Pistols Johnny Rotten .

Oasis

Oasis is a British rock band formed in Manchester in the early nineties. Initially known as The Rain, the band was formed by vocalist Liam Gallagher, guitarist Paul Arthurs, bassist Paul McGuigan and drummer Tony McCarroll, who would later join as a composer and guitarist Liam’s older brother, Noel Gallagher (who left the band on August 28, 2009).

Musically his main influences are, in themselves, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and The Who. They have also named, among others, The Stooges, The Kinks, The Smiths and Neil Young.

Band Profile: Temple of The Dog

Temple of the Dog was a rock band formed in Seattle in 1990. It was conceived by vocalist Chris Cornell of Soundgarden as a tribute to his friend died from heroin, Andrew Wood (lead singer of Malfunkshun and Mother Love Bone). The lineup consisted of guitarist Stone Gossard, bassist Jeff Ament (both ex-members of Mother Love Bone), as lead guitarist Mike McCready, drummer Matt Cameron and Eddie Vedder (who would later be the voice of Pearl Jam) as the second vocalist .

The band released their only album, the self-titled Temple of the Dog in April 1991. Beyond his incredible record, forged the foundation for what would become Pearl Jam.

The Kooks are an English indie rock band formed in Brighton in 2004. The band consists of Luke Pritchard (vocals, guitar), Hugh Harris (guitar, vocals), Paul Garred (drums) and Peter Denton (bass).

Taking their name from the David Bowie song “Kooks.” The band signed with Virgin Records just three months after having performed at Brighton. They reached the UK music chart for the first time with the single “Eddie’s Gun” peaking at # 39. The debut album Inside In / Inside Out, released in January 2006, generated six top 40 singles and to date the album has sold over two million copies. The album brought the band attention from the mainstream media, winning the award for best performance of the United Kingdom and Ireland in the 2006 MTV awards and getting a Brit Awards nomination for the single “She Moves in Her Own Way” .

Iggy had been part of the blues band The Prime Movers The Iguanas and later, a group in which he played drums and whence came his famous nickname.

Band Profile: Soundgarden

Baptized with the name of a popular wind sculpture located in Seattle, Soundgarden were one of the great formations trapped in the grunge sound, establishing a pioneering blend of hard rock bands and metal like Led Zeppelin or Black Sabbath, the psychedelia of the late 60 and proto-punk groups like the Stooges, New York Dolls, The Velvet Underground and MC5, without losing a glimpse into the work key names like The Beatles, Neil Young, Kiss, Ramones and Jimi Hendrix.

Soundgarden is a derivation of the encounter between guitarist Kim Thayil (born September 4, 1960 in Seattle), bassist Hiro Yamamoto (born April 13, 1961) and Bruce Pavitt in a small town in Illinois called Park Forest.

These three childhood friends moved to Olympia, Washington to attend college at Evergreen State College and continue sharing their confluence music lovers. Pavitt formed in late 1979 a fanzine called Subterranean Pop, which in its third issue to cut its name to the Sub Pop fanzine Eventually became the label Sub Pop Records, a nursery for raising awareness of alternative bands Northwest of the United States and starting point for the most important names in the music called grunge.

Band Profile: Green Day

This punk rock band originally from the United States and formed in 1989 is composed of Armstrng Billie Joe, Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool.

The band began to take shape when Billie Joe Armstrong and Mike Dirn form a band called Sweet Children when they were only 15 years, in 1989 he joined drummer Al Sobrante current changing its name to Green Day. That same year the band released their EP 1.000 hours which was well received and led them to sign their first contract with an independent label Lookout.

The first CD was called Green Day 1.039 Smoothed Out Slappy Hours. That same year one of the members of Al Sobrante left the band and going to replace Tré Cool.

The band’s second album was released in 1992 called Kerplunk which led to a tour of the UK.
Dookie In 1994 launched his new record label Reprise Records and later that year began a U.S. tour coming to play at Woodstock ’94.

Insomniac recorded in 1995.
Ninrod released in 1997 who got the double platinum.
