Band Profile: The Kooks
The Kooks are an English indie rock band formed in Brighton in 2004. The band consists of Luke Pritchard (vocals, guitar), Hugh Harris (guitar, vocals), Paul Garred (drums) and Peter Denton (bass).
Taking their name from the David Bowie song “Kooks.” The band signed with Virgin Records just three months after having performed at Brighton. They reached the UK music chart for the first time with the single “Eddie’s Gun” peaking at # 39. The debut album Inside In / Inside Out, released in January 2006, generated six top 40 singles and to date the album has sold over two million copies. The album brought the band attention from the mainstream media, winning the award for best performance of the United Kingdom and Ireland in the 2006 MTV awards and getting a Brit Awards nomination for the single “She Moves in Her Own Way” .
