Band Profile: Soundgarden
Baptized with the name of a popular wind sculpture located in Seattle, Soundgarden were one of the great formations trapped in the grunge sound, establishing a pioneering blend of hard rock bands and metal like Led Zeppelin or Black Sabbath, the psychedelia of the late 60 and proto-punk groups like the Stooges, New York Dolls, The Velvet Underground and MC5, without losing a glimpse into the work key names like The Beatles, Neil Young, Kiss, Ramones and Jimi Hendrix.
Soundgarden is a derivation of the encounter between guitarist Kim Thayil (born September 4, 1960 in Seattle), bassist Hiro Yamamoto (born April 13, 1961) and Bruce Pavitt in a small town in Illinois called Park Forest.
These three childhood friends moved to Olympia, Washington to attend college at Evergreen State College and continue sharing their confluence music lovers. Pavitt formed in late 1979 a fanzine called Subterranean Pop, which in its third issue to cut its name to the Sub Pop fanzine Eventually became the label Sub Pop Records, a nursery for raising awareness of alternative bands Northwest of the United States and starting point for the most important names in the music called grunge.
