Band Profile: Kiss

Kiss is an American rock band, formed in December 1, 1972 in New York City. Its members are characterized by the use of make-up with characters from comic books and terror or her extravagant staging.

While other artists like Alice Cooper and David Bowie represented in a theatrical rock, Kiss went even further in the circus and side of rock. Based on their live performances and major events, spitting blood and fire, smoking and diverse guitar pyrotechnics, Kiss was a sales phenomenon and popularity in the ’70s. It has revolutionized rock shows and was considered the most popular U.S. band in that decade. Kiss has sold in the United States more than 19 million albums, 2 and worldwide sales exceeding 100 million. Besides, he has released over twenty albums.

The original band consisted of Gene Simmons (bass and vocals), Paul Stanley (rhythm guitar and vocals), Ace Frehley (lead guitar and vocals) and Peter Criss (drums and vocals). With their makeup and costumes, they took the characters of “The Devil” or “Vampire” (Simmons), the “Star Boy” and “The Lover” (Stanley), “Space Man” or “Martian” ( Frehley) and “El Gato” (Criss). Due to substance abuse problems and differences with other leaders, Criss left Kiss in 1980 while recording the album Unmasked and Frehley left the group in early 1983. Commercial sales of the band had waned considerably in that time.
