Band Profile: Temple of The Dog

Temple of the Dog was a rock band formed in Seattle in 1990. It was conceived by vocalist Chris Cornell of Soundgarden as a tribute to his friend died from heroin, Andrew Wood (lead singer of Malfunkshun and Mother Love Bone). The lineup consisted of guitarist Stone Gossard, bassist Jeff Ament (both ex-members of Mother Love Bone), as lead guitarist Mike McCready, drummer Matt Cameron and Eddie Vedder (who would later be the voice of Pearl Jam) as the second vocalist .
The band released their only album, the self-titled Temple of the Dog in April 1991. Beyond his incredible record, forged the foundation for what would become Pearl Jam.
Chris recorded material was slow and melodic, very different musically from the band’s aggressive rock Soundgarden.Es why Cornell contacted former band mates Andrew Wood, Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament, who were even thinking about how to proceed with Mother Love Bone, with the intention to publish the songs as sencillo.Jeff Ament described the collaboration as “a really good idea at the time” for him and that Gossard and put them in a “situation where they could keep playing and making music “. The lineup was completed with the addition of Soundgarden drummer (and later Pearl Jam), Matt Cameron and the future of Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready.
They called Temple of the Dog as a tribute to a line from the song of Mother Love Bone, “Man of Golden Words”, written by Andrew Wood.
